Integrity, What's That?

How did we go from being known as the land of the free, home of the brave,  a shining beacon of light and hope to a nation that our staunchest allies believes can't be trusted to tell the truth?

When did it become okay to lie to people and then blame them for the results of listening to the sweet nothings whispered in their ears?

Racism supposedly isn't a problem in this country and anybody that thinks there is, is supposed to get over it.  That sounds all well and good unless you live in a part of the country where it's obvious that racism is alive and well.

Why did iTunes play Lunatic Fringe and Brain Damage while I was writing the above?

Sheesh!  I've always known my opinion was irrelevant, life has made that all too apparent, but thank you Glenn for pointing that nobody else's is either.

It's 10:55 Sunday morning in California as I'm writing this and I haven't decided whether or not to spend the last of my cash on going to see the Dark Knight and they already know the movie made $155.34 million for the weekend.  How is that possible?

No wonder the populace keeps losing elections.  Who knew the Netroots Nation had rules.  One of them being that you had to be nice to Speaker Pelosi, even though she hasn't done a thing that the Democrats elected her to accomplish.  Glad I didn't waste my money.

The Destroyer speaks.  Doesn't he know that everyone is at the convention and will get around to doing his bidding when they get back?

Spending The Morning With Kenny

Wayne Shepherd, that is.

Why, yes I was, why do you ask?  Followed by what seems to be the story of my life.

Please.

Questions And More Questions

Claiming piracy is a little over the top, don't you think? The recording industry is in the process of putting the last nail in its coffin by trying to get Congress to pass legislation that enables them to charge royalties to AM/FM radio. Radio is the place where I hear a song and then download it from iTunes. Generally I'm not fond of today's music and if KFOG wasn't such a good indie station that plays a variety of old and new, I wouldn't choose to listen. There are very few classic rock stations anymore and those that are left somehow manage to play the same 100 songs over and over again. Why is Smooth considered a classic when it isn't even ten years old yet? As if there weren't thousands of other songs to choose from.

Signs of the future. We will see more of this and it will get ugly. On a happier note, it should solve the problem of obesity in this country.

Another nobody could have foreseen situation for the crew without a clue. The administration has no plan to follow up on the surge. Gee, when they were kids did they touch the hot stove over and over or were they too busy banging their heads against the wall?

On the brink of recession? Honey, we went over that cliff last year and are hurtling into a depression. He must mean that the rich are noticing that the dollar isn't buying as much when they go gallivanting around Europe for the weekend. Either that or he had to pick up the tab for his Kopi Luwak.

Surprise! The Justice Department has been using illegal hiring practices to to pack it with conservative attorneys so they can cherry pick which cases they want to prosecute. That's my current government, politics over competence. Ethics aren't a hallmark of this administration, are they?

Random Thoughts

Back in 1974 I learned to repair the guidance control systems on four (Lance, TOW, Dragon and Shillelagh) different missiles while I was stationed at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. I liked the city, it was friendly and comfortable to an 18 year old out on her own for the first time. I saw Elvis, the Guess Who, and Alice Cooper at the newly built Von Braun Civic Center. I don't remember the comedian but I do remember the joke. "The Von Braun Civic Center; seating for 50,000, parking for 200." Parking was miles away. Those were good times.

One of the main reasons I prefer being single is because I am incapable of submitting to a man's will, just because he is a man. I am not a servant and never will be. Mike Huckabee is a shining example of everything that I find wrong with marriage and he isn't going to be able to hide the fact that he thinks women are supposed to be maids, cooks, breeders and whatever else his little heart desires.

The RIAA can kiss my backside. I've paid for every song I own, which is one of the reasons I now buy from iTunes instead of cds. Why should I pay for songs I don't want? I've transferred all my cds to the computer and play them in a format that is convenient to me, my iPod. It's small enough to carry anywhere which is more than I can say for a cd. If they are determined to maintain that it is illegal to transfer a song from a cd that I paid for to the computer that I paid for, then I just won't buy any more cds, not even used ones. Ever. And neither will anyone else.

Food labels have undergone several changes in the last twenty years, not all of them good. You used to be able to see the complete nutritional content but then they eliminated all but a few vitamins and minerals (A, C, Calcium and Iron). Well, they are going to revamp them again and supposedly they will let you know which foods are healthy and which aren't by using a 1 to 100 scale. I like the simple method. Cook from scratch but not everybody has the time or the inclination to do that.

Talking out both sides of their orifice award goes to the NY Times. If things are so bad, why did they hire William Kristol? He's been the chief cheerleader in the Iraq debacle and is willing to extend that mistake to Iran. Sheesh, the hypocrisy is mind numbing.

Because It's The Write Thing To Do

Support the Writer's Strike, they deserve to make a living wage. Heck, they deserve to make a profit. You have no idea how different their original story is from what finally makes it to the screen. Don't blame them because producers and studio executives are frustrated writers without an original idea so they have to steal from those they have power over.

Have you seen the commercials with the digital actors? The producers want all the money for themselves. Very little work on their part, massive return to their pockets. Just like the rest of big business.

Barn Door Meets Lock

When I was a little girl, hospitals were sparkling white. Everything looked and smelled clean. It was a fresh scent with a rubbing alcohol backnote. Everybody wore crisp, clean clothing and stray hair was non-existent. How times have changed. When mom had her gallbladder out a few years ago I saw some things that gave me pause. One of the nurses was typing at the medical station and sneezed all over the keyboard. Then the next nurse came in, typed for a while, touched a few things at the nurse's station and then left to work on a patient. Mom's doctor was dressed in a pair of saggy pants that he had to keep pulling up, even after he had washed his hands. I couldn't get her out of there fast enough.

Now antibiotic resistant staph infections are on the rise and one of the proposals is for hospitals and other entities to clean more. Well, duh.

As the bottom line became more important to hospitals than patient care, they cut back on what they considered "non-essential" services. One of the problems with corporate thinking is that "non-essential" usually means those on the bottom end of the pay scale. The ones that do the dirty work. Literally. Unfortunately this has not just been restricted to the medical profession. This same short-sighted thinking has been applied to schools, stadiums and other places where large crowds gather.

Did you know that it's hard to type and sing at the same time? The sound is pretty good on the new iMac, but the screen is huge in comparison to the laptop. I haven't really played with Leopard yet, I still have to buy a Firewire so I can transfer the data from the PowerBook, clean it up and sell it to a friend of mine. I'll be back to regular posting soon, as soon as I quit playing around with the new toys. I sort of miss my car, but gadgets have helped to mitigate the sadness.

Your Time Is Gonna Come

Considering that al-Qaeda were responsible for very little of what went wrong in Iraq, this is a most hollow victory. Besides, they can afford to wait. The next group tall enough to ride the AQ express to Allah should be ready shortly.

The sad part is that the end result of this will be that cops become even more untrusting and even more likely to respond with violence as a first resort. I will admit to having authority issues but you would not have known that the other night when I wrecked my car just outside my front door. Responding were six cop cars, a firetruck, an ambulance and a tow truck, so I was on my best behavior. My mother gave the cops permission to enter the house and they found me using the sanitary facilities. Mr. Policeman asked me what I was doing and I told him I was peeing (I know you can do without the visual). He said I needed to come outside and I told him I would as soon as I was finished. I washed my hands and went outside with them up. They asked a ton of questions, looked at my foot and left. If I had had an attitude, I'm sure I would have had a Breathalyzer and mucho harassment, which definitely would have included jail time. There are times when I'm grateful that I remind people of Aunt Jemima instead of some two bit rapper.

During the attempted Blackwater whitewash (we're just here to help and we have the best of intentions) on 60 Minutes, they showed Condieliesalot using their services. From the videos it doesn't looks like defense is their strong suit. Somebody should tell Condi that flak vests are not a fashion accessory. They are supposed to protect the heart in addition to the breasts and that it needs to be worn higher up on the torso to be considered effective. Everything from her sternum to her head was exposed. Not good protection from the blond guerrillas.

Woohoo! Finally the iTunes can be Trampled Underfoot by Bron Yr Aur while the Black Dog swings from the Gallows Pole and everybody knows it's Nobody's Fault But Mine as they Ramble On. The problem is that When The Levee Breaks, Moby Dick will be Down By the Seaside with a Living Loving Maid singing the Immigrant Song which might make it difficult to Boogie With Stu since most people will be suffering a Communication Breakdown leaving them Dazed And Confused while they are Going To California to fight the Battle Of Evermore over a Black Country Woman and some Custard Pie. Not that I'm fond of metal dirigibles on a Stairway To Heaven.

Not good. Not good at all. My condolences. Reporters are certainly taking a hit in Iraq.

Geeking Out

An electric car with wheels that turn 90 degrees for easy parking, a body that swivels so you can change directions and a robot that can sense one's mood? The latter is supposed to be for companionship, but it's a little too close to "I'm sorry Dave, I afraid I can't do that", for me. Pivo, which is supposed to be short for pivot is pretty cute although its name needs a help.

See-through toilets. Fortunately they are talking about the tanks and not the bowls. They look a little busy to me, but you should be abe to decorate them any way you want.

Cosmetic chemical cocktails. Some women absorb 5 pounds of chemicals (such as arsenic in eyeshadow) through their skin and eat five lipsticks per year (over a lifetime that works out to 1.5 pounds of lard) in an effort to look and feel good about themselves. The sad part is that men are starting to use some of these products too. Maybe not the lipsticks or eyeshadow, but the marketing of creams, lotions and manly body sprays is definitely on the rise.

I hope so. Coral reefs are some of the most beautiful scenery on earth and if they can adapt to global warming, it would be a great thing.

Transparent plastic that is as strong as steel. Nice.

I swear iTunes has a mind of its own. And a sense of humor, but it might just be my choice in music since all it gets to do is pick the order.

Stupidity Abounds

Rape an unconscious woman, apologize twenty years later, serve less than six months, go home. Have your female lawyer state that you have paid for your misjudgment, shameful.
"This matter came to light because he tried to right a wrong," said his attorney, Rhonda Quagliana. "Mr. Beebe has been sufficiently punished for his misjudgment."
Something tells me that she wasn't talking about his committing a crime, but that he confessed to it. No wonder lawyers are disliked. Maybe she could defend this guy next time. He's definitely a candidate for a future Darwin award, unfortunately he reproduced. Which is what got him into trouble in the first place.

Revenge. Just what Iraq needs. Not. It's amazing how many wrongs will never make it right.

Help the lender
, forget the people who were bamboozled into believing that they could own a home. Why is it that if you or I run short of funds, sometimes through no fault of our own, the bank won't help us, but when they run short of funds help is on the way? They made bad investments and tried to capitalize on the housing boom, but now it's backfiring and they don't have enough money to cover their bills. Good luck trying to get your bank to lend you money when you screw up.

The surge, according to Bush, is working so well that the troops have to stay. Meanwhile, Tony (not gone yet) Snow says that the Iraqis are lagging on the benchmarks but other important things have been accomplished. If they weren't important enough to be benchmarks in the first place, why do they count now? Whatever.

Cautious. Anther way of saying that consumers don't have money. They haven't had any for a long time, but credit card usage disguised it. Not any more. Whee! The snowball is getting bigger and starting to pick up speed.

Just installed the Foxy Tunes extension because they added Blogger support and the ability to sign off with the song that is currently playing. Love iTunes, nobody can convince me that it isn't some type of AI, or maybe my music is just that sarcastic.

The New iPods Are Here

Gizmodo rocks!

What in the heck will I do with 160GB of memory on an iPod Classic? My first computer (IBM Aptiva 75) was only 5 GB for the whole system and most of that was occupied with Windows 95. I can't even fill up an 8GB Nano yet. Unless I download videos.

Now the iPod Touch is what I want. The same screen as the iPhone but not enough memory to make me feel that I should put just anything on it. Plus it's WiFi enabled and can access the Music Store. Web surfing with Safari. Gotta have it.

All photos are from Gizomodo.

So much for the iPod killers. NBC must be feeling pretty dumb right about now. I never buy anything from Amazon but I do from iTunes. iTunes was there for me when Comcast was trying to blackmail me into paying more for the SciFi channel. Now I have DiSH, but if there are any scheduling conflicts, I'll just find another option. There are always options and NBC tends to forget that.

The Starbucks integration doesn't do much for me since I don't drink coffee, or anything else, from Fourbucks. I wonder how close you have to be for it to work. Oh well, I'll survive.

Yippee! Now all I have to do is save up all my pennies.

Wednesday Observations

Snicker. I've always wondered about annulments. When I was a little girl I was under the impression that you could only get one if you hadn't had sex in a marriage but then it started being granted to couples who had had kids. Such as Joe Kennedy II. He and his wife had twins before he divorced her to marry his former aide and then had his first marriage secretly annulled because the new wife wanted to be married by a priest. Tough toots, that little bit of stupidity has been reversed. His first marriage is as valid, if not more, than his current one. People running around acting like their heads have been cut off, hyperventilating over the defense of marriage because gays want to get married and not a peep about all the divorces and annulments which definitely give marriage a bad name.

I had this classmate who swore by bee venom therapy for his rheumatoid arthritis and convinced other people to try it. Some people got relief but the pain of the sting is a definite deterrent to regular practice.

If you have an Ipod and Itunes there is very little need to continue to buy video and music software or portable stereo equipment which is probably one of the major reasons in the decreasing sales at electronic stores. I refuse to shop at Circuit City since they laid off their higher paid workers who had all the knowledge and Best Buy never has what I'm looking for. But maybe, just maybe, the economy is slowing down and this is one of the harbingers of bad news, FedEx thinks the economy is already soft and is hoping that things will get better by the end of the summer. Fat chance.

Which style of lacing uses the least amount of shoelace? Did you know that there was a mathematical solution to the problem? I didn't know there was more than one way to lace up my shoes, I thought velcro was the alternative.

Silly Saturday

Hmm, I guess I'm making up for somebody, because I have bought more than 22 songs off of iTunes. Then there are the tv shows. And I still have 20 GB of free memory left. My first computer only had a 5 GB hard drive ...and was much bigger.

Teaching children to go outside and play, what a concept. I didn't know kids needed to be taught, what a shame. On the other hand, it also shows what a good influence the media can have on lifestyle. Sportacus inspired a 22% increase in the purchase of fruits and vegetables. Now, that's impressive, also quite ingenious.

Carl, at Simply Left Behind, has a great snark on the passing of the co-creator of the remote control. Then there are the people who fail to use the most important power of the remote. The ability to skip the commercials.

If Wishes Were Horses, Beggars Would Ride

Of course wishing won't make the war go away. I've tried and it's still here. So is the crew without a clue and all of daddy's little girls.. They really do think we are stupid and that they are superior. They have sacrificed absolutely nothing, but have no qualms about having others give to the last drop, and then expect them to like it. Iraq never was, and more importantly, never will be a good idea. Doesn't matter how many times or how stridently it is repeated, you will never convince the American people that this debacle was worth it. Never.

Of course their brains are different and the crew without a clue is definitely lacking in activity in the posterior superior temporal sulcus region of the brain. People who give, look at life a different way. It would be nice if a majority of humanity could evolve in the same direction. Unfortunately there is always the other side of the coin, the yin yang thing. Balance, a state we have yet to achieve.

Tighter that a nun's knickers. Now that was a new one for me and just what I want in my iPhone. I don't use half the capabilities of my current phone, I use the stuff on my iPod so I don't normally need second party apps.

Forget the vets. Yes, once again the crew without a clue takes away from the veterans access to services when they need them the most. Can these guys be anymore obvious that they really want a feudal society?

I have to download 24 to iTunes, it doesn't come through on the antenna and Heroes was fuzzy . Oh well.

Cauliflower gratin. Yum. Maybe that will be part of tonight's dinner.

Good Morning

Have you ever wondered about Zip Codes, like why does someone across the street have a completely different Zip? The business across the street from me had a Zip that was seventy numbers different from mine. The ZipScribble Map won't either, but it can put the Zip Code into a different perspective.

Hair, sometimes you have too much, sometimes not enough or it isn't in the right places. Why does some hair seem to grow back right after you trim it? Once you get past the first few paragraphs, it become a slightly more interesting read.

Discharged from the US Army was I, on this day in 1976. Lots of other stuff happened on that day in history, Stephen Hawking, Elvis and Bowie were born, my brother got married, Bush Sr, puked on the Prime Minister of Japan, President Johnson declared the war on poverty, AT&T supposedly broke up (1982, not that you can tell it now), and just last year Tom Delay stepped down as House Majority Leader.

Speaking of Michelle Forbes, we weren't but it's her birthday too, her storyline on 24 was never fully resolved. We last saw, or heard of, her being loaded into an ambulance after a rather substantial fall. People are talking about what a riproaring season that this one will be, I'll reserve judgment. It's up against Heroes this season
and I won't be able to watch both. I am going to have to download and pay for one series and have issues with which one.

NBC irritates me because you can only stream it for free (Mac discrimination!) if you have Windows and there is a part of me that objects to giving money to FOX. Even through iTunes. Decisions, decisions.

I have to admit, I've been Plutoed.

Scary Christmas

Dealing with the healthcare system can be a trying experience when you are under stress. It requires great patience, tolerance of stupidity, repetition of the same information and the same tests, either because doctors don't trust each other's judgment or it isn't written in a readily accessible place and the computer is too much trouble. Whatever the excuse, it's aggravating.

Mom woke upon Christmas Eve morning with slurred speech and the left side of her face was slightly drooping. I didn't notice at first because she didn't vary her routine , she brought me my tea, responded with your welcome, took her coffee and went outside to smoke. A little later I was asking her about what else she wanted for dinner and I noticed she couldn't say Brussels sprouts. Convincing her that something was wrong took a monumental effort because she can be quite stubborn. Meanwhile it made me look like I was being mean, until the diagnosis came back, then everyone talked about how it was a good thing I was so persistent.

I took her to the hospital where the triage nurse yelled at me for taking too long ...then they took her into a treatment room and left us there for an hour. Then they came back and took her blood pressure (243/127) and left us for another hour. Meanwhile mom is getting frustrated and wants to go home, swears she isn't spending the night. It took five hours to get her CT scan and then she consented to being admitted overnight. She made me promise (long story), in front of witnesses, that I wouldn't tell my brothers.

She's home now, her blood pressure is a little lower and she told the doctor (in no uncertain terms) she wasn't going to quit smoking. The neurologist asked her where she was from, turns out her parents are native born Germans also. She changed tactics immediately. It was pretty interesting. Mom's orthoneuro evaluation was encouraging, once doc got her past CN 3,4,6. Mom really doesn't understand the concept of following the doctor's finger. They finally ended up telling her which way to look and you aren't really supposed to do that. The damage seems to be confined to CN 7 and 11. That's almost funny. Motor skills and strength are unaffected, she is just difficult to understand sometimes. And she drools a little.

Her cholesterol is great 172, HDL of 67, triglycerides were 54 but they still want her to take Zocor, I'm not really sure about that since the side effects are more likely to outweigh the benefit. I can understand about the atenolol but I will be watching her diet because she doesn't need Type 2 diabetes on top of everything else.

She loved her Christmas presents, homemade truffles from the Minstrel Boy (they deserve their own post!), thermal underwear and bright red slippers, Shai Shai got liver treats and I got a handmade molcajete and Open Fire by Ronnie Montrose which has the amazing and haunting instrumental "Town Without Pity" that I've been looking for, plus an iTunes gift card. Dinner rocked, even though mom wasn't supposed to eat any of it. Standing rib roast, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts and southern greens.

Bad start, decent ending.

Verizon Sucks Part 2

They canceled my internet access for watching YouTube, that's a no no. They don't consider it to be internet browsing. So, the public library is my friend.

Will be back later.

Update: Well, it isn't YouTubes fault, it seems that when Apple changed iTunes to compensate for the movies (HDTV) that it sucked up way too much bandwidth. I was fine until they changed the format, then I went too far over the unlimited usage. I promised I wouldn't do it again and they let me start my two years all over. Wasn't that nice of them?

Bits and Pieces

YouTube is now BooTube. They are supposed to be removing the Comedy Central videos on Monday. I only watched clips, I'm not interested in paying iTunes to watch the whole show. If they remove the Keith Olbermann videos, Google will have paid a billion dollars for blue sky. I'm not really interested in a site with goofy videos, but then I don't America's Funniest Home Videos, either. How can choices expand and contract at the same time?

Soap operas and superheroes. I know that soap operas can be a little over the top but a superhero? Sheesh, what will they think of next? What's next, the Greatest American Hero? Hasn't that already been done?

Spiderman could have a new home, his own fortress of webitude if could get these guys to work for him.

Of course Michael J. Fox can take a hit, he's taken a big one on the chin and kept on fighting. Limpballs won't be able to knock him down and looks stupid even trying.

I don't want anybody controlling my judges, I want them fully independent of politics even though I know that's impossible. It seems I'm not the only one.

As much as I love tea, I am not going to pay $3 on a regular basis when I can make it at home, just the way I want it. If I was out, was thirsty and had money I didn't know what to do with, I would give it a shot.

The New TV Season

Is much better than last year. I am enjoying several new shows in addition to the old standbys (CSI, NCIS, Numb3rs, BSG, Lost, L&O,). I would like to watch Veronica Mars but can't find it online or iTunes. I don't have cable and I seem to be surviving pretty well.

iTunes has been very helpful, while CBS and ABC have great online viewing options but I haven't been as faithful to old shows as I am to my new interests. NBC forces me to pay iTunes because I won't use Internet Exploder and I use a Mac, but then I have the episodes to watch over and over again if need be.

Three new shows are on my new must see list. First up since it starts at the beginning of the week. Heroes. It is fascinating, the characters are interesting and I just like it. Wednesday scores with two new shows. From CBS we have Jericho, which up until recently sounded a little far fetched, now, not so much. This also has great characterization and an engaging storyline even though I am wondering where the people from the plane and the train went to, maybe those questions are answered in last night's episode which I still have to watch. Jericho actually introduces plot points that most shows would gloss over, like 24's (I can hardly wait for January!) nuclear explosion in the second season did. What would happen to all those planes in the air?

Lastly, we have The Nine on ABC. I like it. Dark, gritty and fascinating, just like the others (no not the ones from Lost). It continues on the path blazed by Boomtown in showing the same scenes from different perspectives. There's the truth and then there is what actually happened.

Hopefully these three shows will make it to the end of their storyline, unlike Kidnapped which I also enjoyed.

Of A Personal Nature

I haven't been able to post lately because I have been running around like a madwoman trying to get ready for my foot surgery (from my fall last March), which is Monday morning. Then I will be a fulltime member of the pajamahadeen for about six weeks while I wait for it to heal.

It has taken all this time for worker's comp to get its act together and authorize some other treatment besides sit with your foot up. I kid you not. Two cortisone shots (frakkin hurt!), no therapy, no MRI's, nothing except elevate the foot. I have to admit that worked fine as long as I left it that way. Heaven forbid that I try to walk or drive. Whole other story. We won't even get into the knee.

Meanwhile, it seems that my thyroid is acting up, or so they say. I feel fine (except for when I think of the US political situation) but it seems that my thyroid is hyper for a few months and then it is hypo. Ooh, I'm so special. Right now the tests are showing both high and low, they figure it is going to crash and burn sometime in the next few months. I'm so lucky to have something to look forward to. I would love to lose weight without my eyes popping out.

Other than that, the patio isn't ready and I'm out of time. I also have no cable or satellite, thank goodness for Netflix and iTunes, though iTunes has been very slow lately, it took hours to download CSI and I can't figure out why.

I need to find some jokes.

Thirsty Thursday

Not winning the lottery. Of course, I can't pee into a bottle from two miles up either and they are about the same odds. Oh well, there's always the Mega Millions to go along with my snowball returning from its trip around the sun.

Oops, this one is fixed. This is a well written review of the Apple announcements this week and they discuss the gapless technology. It was the only thing I didn't like about my iPod.
Another annoyance gone: now iTunes (and the iPod) can play back live recordings seamlessly, without software-induced gaps between the "tracks." Fans of classical music, opera and Pink Floyd, this one's for you.
Drove me nuts when I listened to Great Gig in The Sky and the segue to Money was all screwed up. Floyd music is not abrupt.

What's up with the minvan drivers who think they are Mario Andretti? You had the kids, deal with it. Driving fast and reckless does not make you look cool, it makes you look stupid.

How to dissuade yourself from blogging. No kidding, should have read that last year. I feel better now.

Does this mean Kim will be back? It is the one thing 24 has been missing, the comic relief of the kimnappings. Her character was so disliked that someone wanted to push her off a pier, but that had already happened and she managed to survive. I like James Cromwell, one of your sexier older men. Star Trek specialized in that even though they didn't mean to.

Drink a little, make more money. This is not an excuse to become an alcoholic. On the other hand, if you have a high I.Q. hangovers don't bother you as much. I think it's because their brains use glucose differently, not because they might not binge drink.

There should be a special place for these people. Really hot and attended by a guy with horns and a pitchfork.
