Quick Medical Update

I hurt. On a scale of one to ten I would rate my pain level as an eight with flashes of nine just for fun. A pain level that was formerly a steady five is now the focus of my life.

So what did they do?

The joint where my big toe attaches to the foot was unsalvageable. They decompressed, scraped and ground the bone, then fused it forever into one solid piece.

Then they moved a nerve that was exposed, ground down a bone in the area and moved it into the groove.

So now instead of a constant dull ache that prevented me from putting weight on the ball of my foot I now have sharp burning pain all the time (since the numbing agent wore off at 10:03 pm yesterday) in addition to the aching throb. Since I am in a surgical cast with my foot in a certain position I am now having leg cramps.

My other leg is tired because it is having to do all the work. My space is too small for crutches to do anything but trip me up but I'm not supposed to put any weight on the ball of the foot for at least six weeks.

Now the best part of this is that I am allergic to most pain medications. No codeine, morphine, vicodin, tylenol, motrin and now the darvon they gave me is making me itch. Like I have fleas or something. The only meds left are ones that they usually administer thru an IV and even though it does come in pill form, due to the relentless pursuit of doctors who prescribe narcotics, they probably won't give any Demerol.

As much as I love my mom, I am not blind to the fact that she is a major passive-aggressive and is not doing well now that I'm virtually helpless and she has to wait on me. I hope she settles down or this is going to be a long six weeks.

Other than that, everything is peachy keen. I think I'll go check the news.

  1. Yow. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I'm not sure checking the news will make it any less painful... Then again, you may get pissed off enough that it distracts you from some of the pain.

  2. Gracious, dear, I feel bad for your suffering. You've been through a lot recently. This is not the only major surgery you've had, I know. I hope things level out soon, and that you can just go on about your life without all this pain.
