The judge is crazier than the defendant. Wondering whether the cow was confused because the defendant's penis didn't produce milk is inexcusable. The defendant is a deviant and should be forced to get professional help. And the judge shouldn't anthropomorphize.
If I was Michael Steele I would be careful about calling anyone a nutjob and most certainly not when they are speaking the truth. While I wanted Bush tried for his crimes against humanity it never would have occurred to me to advocate his death, something that cannot be said of those on the right when they talk about Obama or Clinton. Or did he miss the now famous Facebook poll asking if Obama should be killed or John L. Perry's article (now removed) stating that a "bloodless military coup" might be necessary to restore the Constitution. That wouldn't be the same Constitution that Bush regarded as just a piece of paper is it? And my mind is not tiny. Because Mr. Perry once worked for Jimmy Carter doesn't make him any less of a conservative. Or has everyone forgotten that Dick Morris used to work for Bill Clinton?
Are some personality traits present at birth? I used to worry a lot, mainly about aches and pains and an irrational fear of the dark, but I grew out of it in my twenties. According to mom, and she should know, even though I was sickly (asthma), I wasn't a fussy baby. She says I used to sit in a corner and watch people while laughing to myself. And I'm not that much different now according to a former classmate. I've always been an observer. I used to wonder about it as a child, why didn't I like to participate? I don't mind speaking in front of lots of people but I enjoy being alone even more, especially after being surrounded by excess stimulation. When I was in high school I was known as the girl with the book because I always had one with me and would read it in a crowd of people while peeping over the top. As an adult I prefer my iPod because most people won't bother me when I have the headphones on and I can watch them in peace. Very weird.
Speaking of reading books, the banned book list is out. I've read two of the Philip Pullman novels but I got bored and didn't even start the third. I hated Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer for the same reasons. As a child I was allowed to read anything I wanted, I read On The Beach and A Summer Place in the fifth grade and Playboy for most of my adolescence and the only influence they had was to was to increase my reading skills and to keep an open mind. Trying to pull books from the library in an effort to protect kids from something you don't approve of is likely to lead to children who don't read at all and automatically distrust anything new to their existence. Sort of like their parents.

Stating The Obvious
And this is a surprise? To whom? The political landscape has become a pressure cooker with no release valve and some nut will take the opportunity to do what the voices tell him to do. Unfortunately those voices belong to pundits and preachers who influence millions of people and that makes it increasingly likely that more than one person will decided to take matters into their own hands. When you talk about someone as if they aren't human, as if they are the devil in disguise, the hate factor is ratcheted up into the stratosphere and logical thought flies out the window. It won't occur to the perpetrators that they have lost the moral high ground, listening to the right justify killing someone at church is proof of that, and that the repercussions of their actions will bring about almost everything they fear. Martial law, restrictions on what few civil liberties we have left and confiscation of as many weapons as possible. But that won't stop them because their hatred knows no bounds.
My issue is with the Secret Service and the cavalier way they seem to be doing their job. There is never, and I mean never, a good reason for people without a badge to have weapons around the President. It has been almost 46 years since the last successful attempt to take the life of a President and there have been unsuccessful attempts since then. Squeaky Fromme, Sara Jane Moore and John Hinckley spring to mind and you would think that the Secret Service would do everything in their power to prevent another attempt. Especially since they were so good at making sure that people who were wearing tee shirts protesting the war or the administration and who were exercising the right of free speech, weren't allowed into events where Bush and Cheney were speaking. Why does the Secret Service hold the Second Amendment in higher regard than the First? But then I remember, the Secret Service has members that are comfortable hanging ropes that look like nooses in training facilities.
In October 2000 there was a television show named Freedom whose premise was a coup that started with the killing of the President by flying a plane into the White House. It wasn't on long but as I think back it doesn't seem to be that far fetched. No matter how many times the previous administration and their cheerleaders repeat the opposite, somebody did foresee using an airplane to attack the United States and it isn't that far of a stretch to think that someone will use the diatribes of Cheney and the encouragement of "pastors" to set the country back on the "right" course.
To the detriment of us all.

A Conspiracy For Dummies
After the 2000 election I thought the United States intellectual capital had reached bottom, but I was wrong. The aftermath of 9/11 and the furious attempt to make someone, anyone pay for the tragedy proved that. First it was innocent civilians in the country that harbored the soon to be forgotten Osama bin Laden. But that wasn't enough to soothe the national psyche and so the military and the press were mobilized to attack and invade a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, that had no weapons of mass destruction (but did turn out to be the weapon of mass distraction) and no need for us to disrupt the fragile balance of power that was preventing internecine warfare. And more innocent civilians paid the price. To the average American with their yellow bumper sticker that was acceptable for more years than it should have been.
During the Clinton years what passed for public discourse took a serious right turn. Into the gutter. With the help of Fox News and a rotund drug addled pundit we were well on our way to becoming a hate nation. Getting a blowjob from a consenting woman who isn't your wife is front page news for months. Fraternizing with underage pages of the same sex, consorting with prostitutes while wearing a diaper, carrying on an affair in another country or while living in a Christian enclave, and soliciting other men in bathroom stalls while claiming to have the moral high ground is nothing to be ashamed of or investigated with the same zeal. As long as you are a Republican. Unfortunately for the GOP, one Republican did lose his political career over his sexual antics and is indirectly responsible for the president we now have in office. Very few people remember Jack Ryan (not the Tom Clancy guy) and his wishes to have sex with his now ex-wife Jeri Ryan in a public venue.
Having read all of the aforementioned Tom Clancy novels I can say I love a good conspiracy. I still think there is more to the Kennedy assassination and while I don't believe that George Bush was behind 9/11, I do believe that the arrogance of the crew without a clue contributed to the success. Underestimating your enemy is a good way for them to succeed. So does ignoring presidential memos titled "Bin Laden determined to attack in US". But this latest conspiracy is one I can't even entertain without a grimace and wondering how gullible and desperate some people can be.
When I was in the Army I went to see a JAG lawyer about my citizenship. I was born in England in a USAF base hospital as it states on the birth certificate I can no longer find but my passport states that I am and American citizen. My mother was not a citizen at the time (she became one two years later) and I was concerned. The lawyer assured me that I was a natural born citizen and could run for president if I wanted because my father was a citizen and I was born on American soil even if it was located in England.
Obama's mother was a US citizen and that should be the end of the matter. But it isn't. The State of Hawaii has certified his birth and explained why they release the documents they do and that should be the end of the matter. But it isn't. There were birth notices in two Hawaii newspapers two weeks after his birth forty years ago and that should be the end of the matter. But it isn't. Obama has traveled on a US passport in and out of the country several times before becoming president and that should be the end of the matter. But it isn't. Hilary Clinton didn't find anything and that should be the end of the matter. But it isn't. The US Supreme Court has refused to hear the lawsuit and that should be the end of the matter. But it isn't. Numerous newspapers and fact finding organizations have found the birther questions to be without merit and that should be the end of the matter. But it isn't.
No matter what documents get produced, no matter if someone comes forward that attended his birth and attests to his being born in Hawaii, no matter what information is released, there will be no satisfying those people who rabidly believe that Obama was born in Kenya. Because in the back of their minds there is no way America could produce a black man who could grow up to be president. They are supposed to be singing, dancing, acting or in jail. And that's it. Anything more and they must be one of them foreigners.
We are on our way to becoming a nation of whiners, crying for do overs. Don't like the governor of California? Spend millions of dollars the state doesn't have and recall him. Don't like the current President of the United States? Make up spurious claims in the hope that he resigns in disgrace, gets impeached with evidence that isn't there (instead of impeaching the previous occupant with evidence that did and still does exist), or hope that someone you don't know enacts the Tiller solution. Anything but face the truth. A majority of Americans elected Obama as the lesser of two evils.
Those of us who had to suffer through eight years of a presidency that we thought was stolen know how you feel and you are going to have to do just what we did. Wait for election day. November 6, 2012 is your next opportunity to set things "right". Until then, quit demeaning yourselves by ranting and raving about an issue that has no merit. And no proof.

The Fourth Estate Continues To Fail
There isn't a doubt in my mind that the national press are incompetent at best and bordering on treasonous at worst. An independent Fourth Estate they most definitely are not. For the last fifteen years they have persisted in reporting one side of the story, the GOP side, no matter what the circumstances and no matter what the story. Fair, balanced and objective no longer seem to be the operating requirements for "journalists". In depth reporting has gone the way of the dinosaur and bloggers have had to take up the slack.
The press, along with what passes for Congress for that matter, breathlessly reports in glowing terms or jumps to do the bidding of anything that the GOP wants. Virtually without exception and definitely without question. There have been a few that haven't followed the party line but it's more like throwing a few slices of bread to the masses and then they "see the light" and fall back into line.
I've watched in amazement and with quite a bit of disgust as they hang on to every word that anyone named Cheney utters, determined to anoint them as the second coming of the GOP. Torture? Not a problem for anyone except what they term the liberal left or foreigners that don't know what they are talking about because they didn't suffer through 9/11 and therefore don't know anything about the effects of terrorism. Heaven forbid that they should accurately report what torture is or that it is against the law in the United States and around the world and that it doesn't make us safer but it does make us less trusted.
If the press had done their job objectively before the 2000 election the outcome would have been much different. If they had done their job after 9/11 the United States would not have been hoodwinked into invading a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 (I'm sorry but I can't use 9/11 twenty five times in one article), had no weapons of mass destruction and wasn't a threat to the United States. But they didn't and as a result hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children either died or are suffering miserably. And that includes citizens and taxpayers of the United States.
If the press were doing their job objectively today, Cheney and his family would not receive the exposure they are getting and it most certainly wouldn't be as positive. Last week there were not dueling speeches between the President and a former Vice President, there was a Presidential speech (that I didn't bother listening to because it wasn't necessary) and a rant from an angry, fearful coward who knows he broke the law and doesn't want to go to jail. But not to the press, not even remotely. Cheney is being held up as the man who has our national security interests at heart and Obama doesn't.
When I was a young girl in the sixties, the New York Times was the paper of record and in the seventies the Washington Post was the leader in exposing the Watergate scandal. Today neither one can be depended upon for objective reporting and then they wonder why newspapers are folding for lack of readership. They can blame it on Craigslist or Twitter but the truth of the matter is that the press doesn't do their job of reporting the news, they are too busy trying to make the news into something that pleases their masters. Which amounts to inane babble that informs no one and prevents the truth from being revealed.
The press spends their time carrying water for people who only care about themselves and their so-called legacy and refuse to see that they are repeating the mistakes that got us into the Iraq debacle in the first place. Once again while the US is preoccupied with straw men, North Korea is not only rattling it's saber, it's testing nuclear weapons and threatening its neighbors. And the press? They are concerned with how wonderful Cheney is and why the Obama administration relies on background briefings instead of giving them every name, rank and serial number of their sources. As if the Bush administration was as open as possible. Is Jennifer Loven serious? I don't remember any complaints when Bush and Cheney quoted unnamed sources stating that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction or when Jeff Gannon was masquerading as a reporter. If I was President Obama I would start calling on the smaller news outlets exclusively and ignore the hypocritical Cheney ass kissers such as the AP, NY Times and the Washington Post. And that isn't arrogance, it's common sense since the press is going to make up the story they want anyway. Just like they have done for the last fifteen years.

Sunday Morning Diversions
Well, the WaPo is at it again, trying to create a crisis where none exists. Yes the H1N1 flu virus has made people sick, the flu usually does that but it is not a pandemic and it is already dying down. But did that stop the intrepid reporters from the Post? No way Jose. A two page article in the Sunday edition, still calling it swine flu and a whole section devoted to stoking the fire. Approximately 36,000 people a year die from the flu and that number could be overstated but the news ignores that and hypes the death toll from this new version as a coming pandemic. Since when are 19 deaths in a poor country a pandemic? If they had paid this much attention to SARS when it first started it might not have spread as much as it did. One thing the flu did accomplish, it knocked torture right off the front page. How convenient.
I deeply resent it when people assume that because someone is liberal they want revenge on the Bush administration for authorizing torture and that those who are conservative approve or condone torture and believe that we should let bygones be bygones. Neither of those assumptions is completely true and only serve to continue to polarize the country. Do I believe that torture is wrong? Yes. Do I believe that those who authorized it should be punished? Yes. Does it matter that it was the Bush administration? No. I would feel the same way if it had happened under Carter, Clinton or the current fox guarding the henhouse, Obama. Torture is wrong, it will always be wrong, nothing is going to change that and the perpetrators should be punished. Not even a ticking clock is a valid excuse. Better to die with my head held high than to live under a cloud of shame and hypocrisy. Most Americans used to feel the same way before they were fed the pablum that passes as news.
Given a choice between putting convicted criminals to death or finding the criminals who committed murders and haven't been found, I opt to find the criminals running free. Hopefully Colorado will decide that the money used to try and kill those already convicted will be better used to hunt down and prosecute those who think they have gotten away with murder. Not all cases will be solved but there are many parents, brothers, sisters, wives, husbands and children who would like to know who killed their loved ones.

The number of confirmed dead in Mexico stood at 19 on Saturday, unchanged from the day before, Córdova said at a news conference in Mexico City. Confirmed swine flu cases, including the deaths, rose from 397 to 473.Why is it that people are willing to risk serious injury or death to lose weight but they aren't willing to cut calories and get exercise? The only way to successfully lose weight and to keep it off are to change bad eating and exercise habits. That's it, there is no other way. No matter what diet you are on if you don't change your approach towards food on a permanent basis then you will put the weight back on. It may take a few months or it may take a couple of years but most likely at the end of five years you will be back to your original weight, plus a few extra pounds. Park at the rear of the lot, take the stairs, cut back on the sodas and alcohol, eat more colors (otherwise known as vegetables) and not only will you lose weight you will feel better and your cholesterol will decrease. Now that is a win, win.

Torturing The Truth
Naughty, naughty. The crew without a clue continues to make the news long after they should have ridden off into the sunset. Condieliesalot gets caught in a biggie and is the first one being thrown under the bus, who could have foreseen that? Oh well, you lie down with dogs, you're bound to get a few fleas. Can you shop for shoes when you're in jail?
In written testimony she lied to the Senate Armed Services Committee and stated that she couldn't recall any specific details about the CIA requesting permission to use alternative interrogation techniques when she had already given verbal permission for waterboarding.
It's a good thing we defeated the Taliban when we did. Otherwise they might have gotten stronger and be on the verge of taking over Pakistan and its nuclear weapons. Does anybody really think that getting Saddam Hussein and the mythical WMDs was more important than getting Osama bin Forgotten? Or that it made the world safer for democracy? I think not and no matter how many times Cheney, who should be waterboarded until he STFU, says that Obama is making the United States less safe it will not change the fact that Bush and Cheney didn't capture bin Laden, they didn't defeat the Taliban, they didn't secure Afghanistan and now Pakistan is tumbling into the abyss. Good job boys, I feel safer already. Not.
Excuse me? Somebody needs to reread the definition of evil.
I want my country back, with its head held high and our ethics intact.

According to the new narrative, which compiles legal advice provided by the Bush administration to the CIA, Rice personally conveyed the administration's approval for waterboarding of Zubaydah, a so-called high-value detainee, to then-CIA Director George Tenet in July 2002.I'll bet they have a comment, it just can't be printed.
Last fall, Rice acknowledged to the Senate Armed Services Committee only that she had attended meetings where the CIA interrogation request was discussed and asked for the attorney general to conduct a legal review. She said she did not recall details. Rice omitted her direct role in approving the program in her written statement to the committee.
A spokesman for Rice declined comment when reached Wednesday.

Releasing the Justice memos opened a door and the contents repulsed many people. But these were not evil men who drafted the memos. These were not evil people who carried out the methods authorized by them. They were our fellow citizens who were trying to protect us from the real evildoers. And they did a bang up job, didn't they? Too bad they didn't start working until after the damage was done. Perhaps if they had paid attention to a briefing memo entitled "Bin Laden determined to strike in US" or followed up on either of the two Clinton plans for al-Qaeda instead of dismissing their concerns as "chicken little" alarmists or ignoring the warnings from intelligence agencies all around the world we wouldn't have traveled to the dark side and compromised everything that America stood for.
I want my country back, with its head held high and our ethics intact.

Union Of The Snake
Have you ever noticed that no matter how much we interfere in other country's dealings that within a short amount of time they revert to their old ways? We went to war with Afghanistan to eliminate the Taliban and to capture Osama bin Laden. Seven years later and the Taliban are back in power and threatening us without impunity. And that crap about improving the lives of women? It was just that. Crap. Afghanistan's freely elected President, Hamid Karzai, rushed a bill through Parliament whose only goal was to keep him in office until they have their next election. Most world leaders wouldn't put pen to paper and legalise the rape of women, restrict their access to courts, and approve child marriage in this day and age but that didn't stop Mr. Karzai. Oh no, he rushed the bill through without it being read out loud or debated by the Parliament. And we keep supporting this guy. You know it's bad when Saddam Hussein had more respect for women.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We get the picture, things haven't changed much since the last Depression. Corporations, banks and Wall Street are the winners and their employees are the losers. And will stay that way. In the waiting line.
For a country that revolves around its citizens buying things we aren't going to last very long if a majority of the people are unemployed and stuck in places that don't have enough jobs for the amount of people who would like one and therefore can't afford to buy anything. If people can't afford housing, food or clothes, how can they afford a new car or a refrigerator for the house they no longer have? The recovery needs to start at the bottom, the top has had help for years and look at the mess they made. Not that they're suffering. Yet.
This is my issue with working for a corporate employer. They require that you be at work at a certain time, eat and sleep at a certain time, dress a certain way, behave according to their rules and that if you break them, you can be dismissed. For complying they promise to pay you a certain wage on a predetermined schedule and years ago they offered benefits such as a steady job, health insurance, vacation and sick pay and a pension after committing a large percentage of your life to the company.
In the eighties they started spending company money to move production to another country to save costs and increase profits. When they figured out that the people they laid off could no longer afford their products they didn't discipline the people who had exhibited faulty judgment by eliminating the consumer base, they laid off more people in the States and moved production to even poorer countries where they wouldn't have to pay benefits or worry about workplace conditions and could still give the almighty shareholders their precious dividends and executives received bonuses. Then they set about systematically dismantling the pension and health insurance for the people who had already fulfilled their end of the bargain and worked faithfully for them for years by claiming that they couldn't afford to keep the deals they made with the employees. And then the Bush administration shifted large sums of money from the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation to the already unstable stock market. End result? The elderly will eat dog food and ketchup or die of starvation or they can hang on until winter when they can freeze to death. The middle aged live in their cars and earn just enough to eat a mini meal at Mickey D's once a day and the youth wander the streets aimlessly with no hope for the future and see crime as their only way of getting ahead. I know I'm a cynic but what's next? Lining the homeless up against a wall and shooting them so the rich aren't offended by all those lazy people?
At one time we were the greatest country in the world and now all we have is faded glory. The rich don't notice, they are too busy vacationing or buying homes in other countries while ensuring that they pay less and less to the country that made it possible for them to be a success. Heck, they even adopt kids from poor countries while forgetting about the ones in the land of their birth. The sad part is that those who aren't rich don't mind getting help to cut their own throat because they no longer have the skills to think critically, question authority before it goes too far and are willing to be spoon fed economic pablum by the pundits instead of looking at their own circumstances and seeing how screwed they are.
We may not be watching Rollerball but American Idol, Survivor and Dancing With The Stars make a nice substitute, don't they?

Abusing The Country
This is the opposition? They sound like they've been listening to too many "experts"and it certainly sounds like Gregg has turned off his brain as if it was a light switch. Anyway you look at it tomorrow's generation is going to have to pay for the sins of the Bush administration and to say that President Obama's budget is irresponsible after eight years of massive tax cuts for the wealthy and the almost continuous war on the poor, is a little too much like downing bottles of champagne and then trying to convince the police officer that you aren't drunk, you still have the judgment to drive and the alcohol on your breath is from a mint.
Republicans need to get a grip on reality and realize that the country is in a hole that they dug and learn to support their president. Or at least that's what they've been telling the rest of us for the last eight years while they destroyed the Constitution and rammed disaster after disaster down our throats while threatening us with treason for speaking out about being treated like an abused wife. The country divorced you and it didn't ask for alimony or child support, it just wants you to go away while it tries to rebuild itself.
And like true abusers, Republicans keep believing that more abuse will make us see it their way. Until they get therapy and realize that not only are they part of the problem but that they created the situation, the country is not going to listen to much of what they say.

Gregg repeated what has become an opposition mantra, saying the president's plan "spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much."As opposed to the billions lost to graft and greed in the last eight years which will never to be accounted for, corporations getting ridiculous tax breaks and then moving their operations to a different country so they can avoid any taxes or paying workers a living wage, stealing the youth of today to fight wars whose only accomplishments were to kill innocent civilians, a couple of politicians in a sovereign state that had nothing to do with terrorist acts perpetrated on the United States yet lets Osama bin Laden wander free to continue creating havoc and leaves the veterans to suffer neglect and abuse after serving their country honorably?

Infotainment Instead Of News
Well isn't that just awful, the pundits have lost patience with the President. As if I care what the pundits think. I remember when they were relatively good (This Week with David Brinkley, Tony Brown's Journal and the good versions of Meet the Press and Face the Nation) and confined to their place voicing opinion, not making it. I lost all respect for them during the Clinton affair. They perpetrated and encouraged a witch hunt against a sitting President whose only results were to expose private marital discord to public ridicule and to ensure that when the bumbling idiot that is George W. Bush took over and ran this country into the ground that they could say that the country was tired and that all talk of impeachment was off the table and we must support the President otherwise we were automatically guilty of treason. One must not criticize the President. Unless he isn't the President that the wingnuts wanted, then all bets are off.
And people wonder why today's youth are so confused and who could blame them? On the one hand they were taught that it is okay to try to impeach a President for lying about having sex outside his marriage (like that hasn't been done before!) but it isn't okay to impeach a President for lying about nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, allowing an American city to drown on worldwide television, spying on innocent Americans without any oversight from the court system, considered the Constitution as an old piece of paper, destroyed the military and then cut benefits to veterans, gave the orders that caused the deaths of innocent civilians in two countries, let the Grand High Poobah of the Taliban live free after the most traumatic incident this country had seen in a decade (funny how the FBI could find Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols within days but the military and the CIA can't find a 6'5" man on dialysis in a country where we've been for eight years) and I'm supposed to think that pundits opinions are the word from on high? Oh my, I'm just quaking in my boots. And what the heck is wrong with a little patience? Bush got eight years to screw up this country while the press was complicitly quiet and because Obama hasn't fixed everything that the press has just noticed is broken in the last four months while only being in office for two of them, he doesn't know what he's doing?
Maybe the President is combative because the press asks stupid questions. Repeatedly. Substance is no longer the press' forte. If half as much time was spent on researching what the public needs to know as the news spends on letting us know about the lives, loves and tweets of today's entertainment crowd maybe the President and I could take them seriously.
Our country is in deep doodoo and avoiding the issues is what the press does best and they are at the top of their game. Unfortunately these guys are so clueless that it probably hasn't occurred to them that if they reported the news in an objective manner that maybe so many papers wouldn't be going out of business for lack of readership.
As Anna Z pointed out so eloquently, why is it that nothing can be done about the AIG bonuses but the government has rules and regulations in place to deal with the last dime of a Medicaid patient because it is considered government money and must be repaid by any means possible? The rich can commit crimes and escape punishment on a consistent basis but the poor must be stripped of everything, including their dignity.
Not that the press notices these things, that would be too much like doing their jobs and they would rather be voicing their opinions instead of reporting the news. Bloviating is their specialty which is why they think everybody else does it too.

American History
It is frightening to me how many people who have served in government wouldn't be able to pass my high school American Government class. From the idiocy that is Michele (we're running out of rich people in this country) Bachmann to the sinisterness of Karl Rove, the dumbing down of political discourse continues. Mr. Rove worries about President Obama's reputation for competence because the White House only suggested $200 billion of the stimulus plan instead of line by line requests. I guess he missed the part in civics class about it being the House's job to initiate revenue bills. Something about them being more representative of the people since they have a smaller constituency and are more likely to understand what the people who elected them need.
While the Democrats may have tax problems, as if Republicans haven't done the same things, the Republicans have a sex problem. They rail about homosexuality being being immoral while indulging in the same activities behind closed doors. Or stalls. And that shows more of a lack of judgment than not paying the taxes that Republicans are always trying to cut. And is Mr. Rove really trying to convice people that Bush didn't wing it on a daily basis? On second thought he might not have if The Pet Goat being upside down is any indication. Man, that's hard to watch.

It's All About The Benjamins, Again
As the axe continues to fall on Californians, the suggestions for stopping the line to the chopping block become more ridiculous and dangerous at the same time. While crossing guards earn minimum wage, what they contribute is vitally important. Both mom (wish I could find the picture of her on the front of the Lompoc Record shepherding kids across the street in a really bad rainstorm) and I have held the job and we can both tell you stories of how dangerous it is. If cities can put in cameras to catch red light runners in downtown areas, what makes them think that people don't run stop signs around schools? Most people treat crosswalks like they're yellow lights.
Umm, I hated Bush but I am in no way euphoric about Obama. All things considered, there is no way that Obama can do a worse job than Bush did. He doesn't have a surplus to lose, he can't start any more wars until the military is replenished and he's not a babbling about nonexistent WMDs like the village idiot. Other than that the only skills I see from Obama so far have been a good deal of luck and having the right people help him out. Which actually gives him the same start Bush had, except for the difference in IQ and that will probably keep Obama from doing as much harm as his predecessor.
BBB
I watched you very carefully. Red light stop, green light go, yellow light go very fast.As the economy continues its death spiral it's nice to know that today's "upper class" are more determined to protect themselves than they are in helping the economy to survive. I'm sure that tax cuts will solve anything, they've done so well so far haven't they? Yes, I know the AMT is not a fair tax at the moment, but one of the comments was priceless.
"We are witnessing the beginning of the end of the private sector in this country as we know it "What I find interesting in this whole mess is is that while most of the homes in the 9th Ward had been paid off for generations, Katrina ensured that those families became renters or homeless by way of a mismanaged disaster of a major city, homelessness has generously been extended to the middle class everywhere by way of foreclosures and job losses. After you've been laid off I guess it doesn't really matter if your company closed or shipped the jobs offshore. Either way, a large part of the tax base disappears. It's so much fun watching everyone rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic, isn't it? Most of those companies that thought they were making money by closing factories in the United States ended up closing themselves. Duh! Chinese Medicine refers to that as running on evil qi.
Thank God for that. I can't take anymore Exxon Mobile record profits and 18 billion dollar bonus payouts while paying several dollars for apples.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise
I haven't been able to post for the last several mornings, I'm going to have to change my schedule around. These have been percolating in draft form so since I can't do anything at the moment, I decided to post them now.
It's amazing what posting a little data and threatening to sic the police on a black man will do. Mom tells me that baby bro stopped by. For a whole hour. For someone supposedly so smart, he missed the point by a mile. I don't care if sees me again, I don't care if he contacts me again, the mission was for him to spend time with his mother and give her a little respect. He snuck in while I was out running around and as far as I'm concerned, the mission was accomplished. Unlike the dodo we hopefully have leaving the White House insix five days.
Michael Chiklis must have a stroke every time Joe the Plumber opens his mouth and spits out more unintelligent garbage by the second, Vic Mackey realizes he has another dangerous leak in the department. At least when Bruce Willis lookalike Jerry Doyle opened his mouth something intelligent came out, like how to make money by saving or using the stock market (his former job) to get ahead. Plus, Jerry Doyle actually ran for office and I can ignore the friendship with Michael Savage. We all have friends we want to hide from time to time. I have one right now where we are pretending that the Gazans aren't being killed just because Israel has the power and some member of Hamas might lob an inefficient missile at a town with bomb shelters instead of hospitals, UN refugee centers and schools like the Israelis do. I guess Joe the Plumber believes that if there is no reporting, there are no war crimes.
Still babbling and in a few weeks he will expect to collect fees for his utterings. Hope he has as much luck as his buddy Gonzales at trting to support his lavish lifestyle after he leaves office. Should have done what his buddy Dick did. Halliburton, KBR, etc. He would have more millions in the bank by now.

Stories Sinking Like The Edmund Fitzerald
Bush is still a dickhead. Espousing stupidity at every opportunity. Torture is okay in his book, although I admit I haven't read My Pet Goat. With just a few more weeks left for him to do damage, he still babbles on about the benefits of waterboarding. Too bad it isn't with him as the number one candidate followed by Cheney and then Rumsfeld. Of course, that's assuming there is justice in the world and that Americans don't do what they always do. Forget about it unless it's a Democratic sex scandal or somebody who used to work for a Democratic administration now is running for office. It's too bad that what I really think would get me investigated more than I already am if I said it out loud or put it in print. As far as I know, thoughts could be illegal at this point.
Liar, liar, his pants are almost on fire. Please don't tell me that Obama thinks Gitmo is a spa facility. Or that the innocent (women, children, families in the way) Gaza dead are going to come back to life. If you can't do the difficult things, then why the hell did you want to be President? We've already had eight years of do nothing but harm, the nation can't take much more of this incompetence. New king, just like the old king. Or as they used to say in countries with royalty "the King is dead, long live the King!" It's obvious that Obama has an addiction. It's called the Crackberry (I didn't know the President could be bought with fancy swag and cutesy toys) and it isn't even made in the states.
Once, twice, twelve times in the back. Yes, the police have established quite a nice record of civil rights for black men since Obama has been elected. Aren't you glad the race wars are over? Happy frickin' New Year.
Gee, who didn't see that coming? The states with the highest unemployment rates also have the highest home foreclosure rates. By the time we get to hell there won't even be a hand basket will be so burnt we'll have to crawl the rest of the way.
If I can't do it, then neither can you. But do what you want with Gaza, people with complain but nobody will do anything to stop the destruction. Besides, it isn't like they are real people like the rest of the world.
Didn't you think that Ponzi schemes were illegal? I guess, like most of what passes for government and business today, rules don't apply to them.
And just because I hate to the song so much you can hve the link, I refuse to embed it. The song never ends.

War, Witch, Stupidity And No Money
Bush is leaving office and just like every other company he left in tatters, America is no different. He's going on his merry way while the Middle East becomes a conflagration that could reach worldwide proportions. Honestly, did people really think that everyone in the Arab world would turn their back on the Palestinians in Gaza?
Israel is such a tiny country in a stupid location it was only a matter of time before other Arab states started lobbing missiles in either support of their brethren, just because they can or because the Israelis want to make it look like Hamas is everywhere that Israel wants to invade next.. If anybody besides Israel really did have "WMDs" their would be no more Israel. To go along with the no more sympathy for any excuse the Israelis use for "protecting" themselves. Genocide, you would think that Jewish people would think it was wrong and a crime against humanity. But that was sixty years ago and it was happening to them, not them perpetrating it on others.
It would be my pleasure to punch her in the yap. Or Adam's apple. Free speech means for everyone, not just Man Coulter and the idiots who agree with her. When is this witch going to be committed to a place where they can adjust her meds daily?
The Dear John Doe letters to the families of those who have died fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq shows in bitter detail how little the government cares about those they have caused to die for no other reason than to boost their own egos. 7000K letters. So much for NCLB when the adults teaching can't even proofread and they supposedly went to school when reading was mandatory. What's next, text messages where you have to guess what they mean? Wer srry ur fmly mmbrs r ded?
Almost as good is if your child plans on using the bathroom or reading books in class please send toilet paper and light bulbs for each of your children in the school because their budgets have been cut so much that they can't afford the basics. I don't know about you but I find it hard to concentrate on school work when I have to go poop. Especially in a public bathroom.
Up, down, more, less. It no longer matters because we don't make anything in this country anymore and until we do we will keep sliding down the rabbit hole. Heck, we can't even sell things anymore. That would require stores to be open for business. Dire consequences, what an understatement.
Wannabe cops shoot an unarmed, restrained person in the back and you think there won't be riots? And cops wonder why they don't get the respect they think they deserve.
No shit. Wow, these economists are brilliant.

We're Not Worthy
How come they never share the good drugs with us, the common people? The economist's version of Mother's Little Helper must pack quite a punch in order to come to the conclusions they did. How in the hell is the economy going to get better since we don't make anything and most importantly of all, we don't make anything that anyone wants to buy? Including us.
Why is this being allowed to continue? The Middle East will never settle down, certain parties in all countries are making sure of that. Why is it that the US invaded a sovereign state, deposed its ruler for crimes against humanity (since there weren't any WMDs) and yet continues to ignore tragedies such as Darfur (is it because we got our butts kicked in Somalia?) and the innocent people of Gaza. Could it be that the truth is unimportant in the grand scheme of things?
Bushisms over the years. If they weren't so stupid they would be even harder to read. No wonder Gerald Ford (and not his Chevy Chase impressionist) thought that Bush was on the wrong track. Actually Bush was in the caboose they left at some station no one has ever heard of. Unless you believe in unreality.
Yup, as Americans go, we just don't get it.

If the dominoes fall the right way, the economy should bottom out and start growing again in small steps by July, according to the December survey of 50 professional forecasters by Blue Chip Economic Indicators. Investors seemed to be in a similarly optimistic mood on Friday, bidding up stocks by about 3 percent. If is an awfully big word to have only two letters. Or as my ex used to say, "if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle." Or as the rest of us put it, "if I only had a job I could pay my bills (on time even!), keep my house and be able to send my children to a good college." Oh well, they have those professional degrees and they've been right so far, haven't they? Plus, is there a domino competition we don't know about?

After, After
Did the Wall Street Journal just call Gore smart? It's amazing how when you don't like someone new you can wax poetical about someone you disliked many years ago.
national Fox TV? The world is definitely changing if these two examples are any example. See what happens when you stop drinking the Kool-Aid? If only it had been sooner. Like eight years ago. Unfortunately, it's more likely they changed the flavor for the new guy.
Coincidence? I think not. Sales are up to 75% off and 75% of the American populace are glad to see Bush go. And not a moment too soon. Too bad it isn't off to jail for crimes against humanity, but there's always some sort of hope. Even the futile
I have always loved Eartha Kitt. From the first time I saw her playing Catwoman on Batman to hearing her sing "Santa Baby", she was always a favorite of mine. I even used to have part of "Santa Baby" as my outgoing answering machine message durin the holidays, at least until Madonna screwed it up. Eartha you had a long life, if not a particularly happy one, but I will miss you and your talent. If I could sing I would say you were my inspiration. Rest in peace and thank you for all the happy memories.
Pull a prank, get sent to jail. That's where kids now get to learn the really good stuff like how to steal cars, break into homes and how to set up a successful street drug operation. Just as every crime is not the same, neither is every criminal. And now states that didn't want the rich to suffer by paying a few taxes that they wouldn't even notice, we will all suffer the results of kids learning to be hard core criminals instead of learning how to compete in the global market. As if there was nothing wrong with the economy that a little jail time couldn't fix. But those criminals are too busy spending their bailouts on things that will do nothing to improve the economy of the have nots and much more to insulate themselves as the have mores.
Gee, I hope it isn't the same group that determined the air was safe in New York after 9/11. Just because all the fish are dead is no reason to worry.

Mr. Obama's troops palpitate with excitement at the prospect of $1 trillion in "stimulus," though any net benefit to the economy likely will be incidental. Al Gore has thrown out the window any unpopular carbon taxes in favor of direct subsidies to his green energy investments. He sees the moment for what it is -- alarm about global warming has degenerated into a pretext. Billions will be diverted from useful purposes to create "green jobs" that deliver no meaningful impact on climate or the accumulation of atmospheric carbon. And Malkin said that Bush allowed the subprime crisis to fester on

Monday, Just Makes You Want To Crawl Back Into Bed
If you could only hear my Snidely Whiplash (check this site if you love plays on words) impersonation this morning. I was in fine form after reading that one itsy bitsy line slipped into the bailout bill for the billionaires.
As in I told you so. Yesterday. I didn't to mention the lack of jobs because it wasn't necessary. How can you have a job if your boss is unemployed or all the companies in the area have either gone bankrupt, moved to another country or the founders died and the family took the money and ran?
This would be funny if it wasn't so doggone stupid. And how was it missed for so long?
The same way everything else over the last eight years was missed until it was so obvious that every blind man knew it was a white elephant in the room. At the very least it was because it was determined to be somebody else's problem. The victim, name known now as Obama. instead of the real perpetrators.) It's the only way the almost never right can live with themselves. Mattresses are going to look mighty attractive soon.
Looking for a job in California? Don't look here unless you want to know which ones are laying off workers at the year's end. If the CSAA in Elk Grove is laying off 346 workers, does that mean they are closing the office? And then the list disappeared. You don't think they're hiding anything do you?
Of, God I will pray, I will plead, I will grovel, I will even begin to believe in smiting one's enemies if you would please, please make these people go away. Preferably with their vile (appalling, bad, base, coarse, contemptible, corrupt, debased, degenerate, depraved, despicable, dirty, disgraceful, disgusting, evil, filthy, foul, horrid, humiliating, ignoble, immoral, impure, iniquitous, loathsome, low, mean, miserable, nasty, nauseating, nefarious, noxious, perverted, repellent, repugnant, repulsive, revolting, shocking, sickening, sinful, sleazy*, stinking*, ugly, vicious, vulgar, wicked, worthless, wretched) wishes unfulfilled. Resorted to using a thesaurus, because I couldn't come up with enough words to express the disgust I felt upon reading the article, much less them using their Lord's name in vain. I seem to remember that is also a sin, one that even comes before murder or having sex with someone else's wife. And I think we can tell they completely missed the one about false witness.
In the Woo Hoo! not surprised position. Net neutrality, more smoke drifting past the on the part I sit on. Too bad it's the kind of smoke that leaves ashes in its wake instead of the kind that leaves stashes fondly remembered.
Know what happens when no one lives in foreclosed homes and has to live in a tent city? Oh well, at least the cleaning bill goes down.

Pride Goeth Before A Fall
It's Sunday and I couldn't resist using the title. I'm not known for using ghetto jargon but this time I can't resist. Nigga pleez! Did I spell that right? It isn't my normal language.
For eight years I've been asking how dumb the crew without a clue thought Americans were. And everyday reveals even more stupidity. Well, we weren't born this morning, we didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday and some of us were able to count all the train tracks, left and right turns and the bridges that fell down to get us to this point. And by the way, Iraqis didn't want him to come over for a hello or goodbye visit.
Add to the fact that the report was never published about the corruption in Iraq, just like every other report that Bush and Cheney have swept under the Presidential seal because they truly believe that our ignorance is bliss and theirs is by divine right and you have a Presidency that is more inept than anybody who lived through the Nixon years would ever thought could be worse. Obviously they didn't want Joe the Plumber to know how badly they had screwed up the clusterf*ck that is known as Operation Iraqi Freedom, aka Mission Accomplished, which is turning out to be the fruitcake everyone passes around at Christmas hoping to never see again. For a group of idiots determined not to relive the debacle of the Vietnam War, they've managed to repeat everything except the napalming of innocent citizens. And I'm pretty sure that story will come out eventually. They haven't missed anything else so far so why should that be an exception.?
Have you noticed how the immigrant problem hasn't been in the news as much? How can there be a problem when even people from impoverished countries don't consider America as a place of pride where you can improve your families lives by pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. Not only do we no longer make boots in this country, we use Velcro because the people in charge think that the average citizen might find that bootstraps are too difficult to operate and besides some of those people not on game shows just might make a success of themselves and that can't be allowed to happen under any circumstances. If Americans start filling in the dots, crossing the t's and dotting the i's, the curtain is going to come off the whole shebang and all the people of Emerald City will see that it was just a group of inept puppet pulling the wrong strings.
Meanwhile we have 36 more days of revelations. Not eight days of lights or twelve days of Christmas or the couple of days of that Kwanzaa thing I don't understand the purpose of. No, not even the kind from the last chapter of the Bible where the world comes to an end and only the good people go to heaven that the crew without a clue has been so earnestly working for. These are the kind of news stories that should make you want to make to pull your head out of the sand and cry tears of pain that our country has fallen so far from its ideals.
You remember the ideals our forefathers fought for don't you? Freedom from tyranny, security in one's own home, a whole bunchh of others that have disappeared and the ability to work for a living that would support your whole family instead of the whole family trying to support the one room travel trailer that is all that is left of their years of hard work and expensive schooling. That kind of thing.
It isn't so much that our pride in being Americans is losing its luster, it's that now we have to depend on other countries to give us our buffing. We'd just better hope they decide to use aluminum oxide grade instead of ceramic or we can forget sitting down for a very long while.

Hubris Usually Precedes A Fall Unless IOKIYAR
So much for constituents having a say in who represents them. And you thought the Daley years were bad. At least the Longs of Louisiana had interesting accents, but Blagojevich wins the award for political stupidity this year and probably the decade. I never thought anyone would top Bush's "heckuva job, Brownie," but I was wrong."
It's amazing how fast some politicians end up in jail and how quickly legislators in some states try to remove them from office while politicians who have been convicted on seven counts are still out wandering around, pandering and receiving sympathy. Of course he's not Don Siegelman or a black guy with a fake pistol robbing a 7/11 so he's still likely to get off.
Maybe if his stance had been a little less wide somebody might have believed him. On the other hand, Larry Craig isn't Mark Foley.
While three Illinois Governors have gone to the Big House (just not the one they were elected for) did you know that three out of four (Madeline Albright, Condeleeza Rice and more than likely Hilary Clinton) of the last Secretary's of State have been women? I guess one could draw their own conclusion on how important the position is any more.) And so far they have all managed to stay out of jail even though Colin Powell (the token guy in the group who has manged to avoid most of the mudslinging about his false testimony on those WMDs that were hidden so well that the Road Runner couldn't find them.) No matter how hard Ken Starr tried to ruin the Clintons, she's still standing.
I have a friend that lives in the area and I haven't heard from her. I'm worried because as unlucky as I am, she has the unfortunate luck to be in the wrong place most of the time. I really hope she's all right.

They Can't Be Serious
Honestly, every time I think the Bush regime has done as much damage as it's going to, more atrocities are revealed. As a veteran myself, I have taken special interest in how active military and veterans are being treated by the crew without a clue. When I first read the story of soldiers injured in Iraq and Afghanistan being denied benefits because their injuries were determined not to be combat related, I had to hold my head tight to keep it from exploding. Since when is being injured in a land mine explosion or mortars pelting the area you are stationed in, considered not to be combat related? This last March would be the answer. Because everybody knows those kinds of injuries happen at home all the time. Once again the people who have paid the the most are the ones that are getting screwed.
And if that wasn't enough to raise my blood pressure, the GAO has found that Bush loyalists were once again cooking the books to make themselves look better. Competitive outsourcing is a bad policy that has had real world ramifications and demeans the people who have done the job successfully for many years. What's really interesting is that all of the people let go were African American. Color me not surprised.
Good grief! Let the kids have a little fun, they're in kindergarten and this is their introduction to US history. They will grow up soon enough and discover that most o fwhat they have been taught is a lie, why hurry the process? If they can't dress up as Pilgrims and Indians, dressing up as angels and a little drummer boy next month are going to be out of the question.
Did you know that women are allowed to drive in Iran? They can even have their own business as taxi drivers. Now that Iraq has been reduced to a fundamentalist prison, at least it is from a woman's point of view, Iran has more democratic freedoms than other Muslim countries. Imagine that.
More banks are failing and the ranks of the destitute are growing quickly. Destitute is worse than poor. You can be poor and still have a leaky roof over your head, when you are destitute you have nothing. Which is what happens when you lose your job, house and self respect. Food stamps only help if you have a place to store and cook the food and while a family of four making less than $21,000 is considered to be below the poverty level, it's still more money than being unemployed and homeless.
Unfortunately, I know the problem a little too well. Fortunately, my landlord has relented for the moment and has agreed to let us stay until February. Work Comp has made me an offer, albeit a very small one, so mom and I will have a roof over our heads for a few more months and I'm trying to find a regular job. Mom really can't be left alone for very long, she does weird things and doesn't remember doing them and now adult protective services wants her watched at all times, so I would prefer to work from home. Unfortunately all those offers have turned out to be scams. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.
