House GOP Leaders Set to Cut Spending: "Beginning this week, the House GOP lawmakers will take steps to cut as much as $50 billion from the fiscal 2006 budget for health care for the poor, food stamps and farm supports, as well as considering across-the-board cuts in other programs. Only last month, then-House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (Tex.) and other GOP leaders quashed demands within their party for budget cuts to pay for the soaring cost of hurricane relief."Now I'm really mad. What do they think this is going to solve. Cut benefits from a growing group of people that the whole world saw has less than nothing in supposedly one of the richest nations in the world? Balance the budget (hah!) on the backs of the people who can least afford it. If we are going to spend money, could we spend it in a way that improves lives, so we don't have to spend three times as much to rescue them? How much money is being spent on the Katrina survivors? No matter how much you spend, where they end up, they will bring their problems with them. If they didn't have education before, how are they going to support themselves in a new situation across the country once the cameras are gone? What about the "disadvantaged" people who were already there? Do they qualify for assistance or will they get left behind? If people don't have an education, how can they improve themselves? They can't go to night school if they are working two or three jobs, and besides most of those programs no longer exist.
How can you pull yourself up by your bootstraps if you don't have boots? These corrupt politicians must be planning for the end because they have made no plans for the future. Their childrens futures have been mortgaged, schools are no longer teaching to learn, children are taught memorization, and that intelligent design will prevent people from asking critical questions of people in authority while they send a good majority of jobs overseas and ask American workers to take cuts in pay, but not cuts in their expenses.
You know the younger generations who have never had to work for anything, walk to school, etc. are not going to adjust to being a third world country in the midst of the plenty they see around them and they won't be capable of figuring a way out.
Not that we are doing any better.
