Wandering the Internets

Nothing is really "floating my boat" this morning. Just a little bit of skimming back and forth.

First up is this article on acupuncture and migraines. When I was in practice I could eliminate 95% of migraines with one and if I guessed wrong, two needles. They can study all they want, but the reason why sham acupuncture works just as well, is that it is a plumbing issue. When you insert needles into the body it changes the pressure in the system. That is acupuncture in its most basic form. Period.
"Secondly, sham acupuncture is as effective as traditional Chinese acupuncture," he told Reuters.

All of the more than 900 patients who had been randomly selected to receive Chinese acupuncture, sham acupuncture or drugs reported similar improvements and reductions in the number of migraine-free days.

"This tells us that Chinese acupuncture is not a very specific treatment," said Diener.
Prevention of migraines and eventual elimination requires a skilled acupuncture diagnostician. People have various problems that can cause pain and those must be addressed individually. If a person is blood deficient, all the needling in the world isn't going to change anything, you must build the substance. If a person is internally rigid with anger, you must smooth the flow and allow blood to circulate freely instead of localizing. If a person has digestive issues, you must treat the digestion and change the diet in order to be effective. Etc. There are many reasons for migraines besides being female between the ages of 20 and 50.

This is sooo not a surprise.
Reactions to the tape, which was obtained by the Associated Press, varied widely -- reflecting the intense debate that has brewed for six months about who should be held accountable for an initially flaccid government response to the catastrophe.

Democrats said the tape shows Bush being warned in urgent terms of the potential magnitude of the storm, making it less defensible that the administration did not act with more dispatch to be ready.

White House officials said the footage reinforces what they have said to critics: that the president, at his Texas vacation home, was fully engaged from the opening hours of the emergency, while leaving operational decisions to the agencies in charge.

Bush was dialed into the conference Sunday at noon Eastern time from a meeting room at his ranch in Crawford, with Deputy Chief of Staff Joseph Hagin at his side.
Nothing will come of this, the Dems will drop the ball on this one. Again.

It does seem that the scandals are rolling out faster and faster doesn't it? Okay, it looks like I have to get a Del.icio.us account. For effective blogging, don't you know.

Looks like they are either practicing or warming up.
Officials said the bombing could be timed for Bush's visit to Pakistan.

Bush is scheduled to fly on Friday to the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, about 1,000 miles north of Karachi, but his exact arrival time is being kept secret. He made a surprise visit to Afghanistan on Wednesday before going to India.

''All international media are eyeing Pakistan at this time, and terrorists are using this to defame Pakistan and Muslims,'' provincial Gov. Ishratul Ibab said.

Islamic militants have targeted the U.S. Consulate in Karachi before.
This is just going to keep getting uglier.

I think I'll go looking for music for my Ipod.
