Torturing The Truth

Naughty, naughty. The crew without a clue continues to make the news long after they should have ridden off into the sunset. Condieliesalot gets caught in a biggie and is the first one being thrown under the bus, who could have foreseen that?  Oh well, you lie down with dogs, you're bound to get a few fleas.  Can you shop for shoes when you're in jail?

In written testimony she lied to the Senate Armed Services Committee and stated that she couldn't recall any specific details about the CIA requesting permission to use alternative interrogation techniques when she had already given verbal permission for waterboarding.
According to the new narrative, which compiles legal advice provided by the Bush administration to the CIA, Rice personally conveyed the administration's approval for waterboarding of Zubaydah, a so-called high-value detainee, to then-CIA Director George Tenet in July 2002.

Last fall, Rice acknowledged to the Senate Armed Services Committee only that she had attended meetings where the CIA interrogation request was discussed and asked for the attorney general to conduct a legal review. She said she did not recall details. Rice omitted her direct role in approving the program in her written statement to the committee.

A spokesman for Rice declined comment when reached Wednesday.
I'll bet they have a comment, it just can't be printed.

It's a good thing we defeated the Taliban when we did.  Otherwise they might have gotten stronger and be on the verge of taking over Pakistan and its nuclear weapons.  Does anybody really think that getting Saddam Hussein and the mythical WMDs was more important than getting Osama bin Forgotten?  Or that it made the world safer for democracy?  I think not and no matter how many times Cheney, who should be waterboarded until he STFU, says that Obama is making the United States less safe it will not change the fact that Bush and Cheney didn't capture bin Laden, they didn't defeat the Taliban, they didn't secure Afghanistan and now Pakistan is tumbling into the abyss.  Good job boys, I feel safer already.  Not.

Excuse me?  Somebody needs to reread the definition of evil.
Releasing the Justice memos opened a door and the contents repulsed many people. But these were not evil men who drafted the memos. These were not evil people who carried out the methods authorized by them. They were our fellow citizens who were trying to protect us from the real evildoers.
And they did a bang up job, didn't they?  Too bad they didn't start working until after the damage was done.  Perhaps if they had paid attention to a briefing memo entitled "Bin Laden determined to strike in US" or followed up on either of the two Clinton plans for al-Qaeda instead of dismissing their concerns as "chicken little" alarmists or ignoring the warnings from intelligence agencies all around the world we wouldn't have traveled to the dark side and compromised everything that America stood for.

I want my country back, with its head held high and our ethics intact.

  2. Have you forgotten who the real enemy is and why it was found legal to use such tactics in the first place? The answer is probably not, but what is important for ppl like you is to spew forth more hate than is needed.
    Way to go, lesser human.

  3. First of all, the word is "knew", not "new", "torture" not "tourcher" and his name is "Reid" not "reed".

Secondly, I happen to believe that anybody, and I mean ANYBODY, who is, was or approved of torture should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Democrat, Republican or purple polka dotted people eaters it doesn't matter to me.

Follow some of the links, which might be difficult since your grasp of English is below 8th grade level, and you might find out that Bush ignored all signs that Osama was dangerous because all he wanted was to invade Iraq.

Oh, and by the way, if Democrats had been mentioned I would have included them because I can't tell the difference between the two parties.

  4. Only cowards hide behind anonymity and only cowards consider torture to be legal. Nazis were hung or imprisoned for these same acts, why shouldn't today's perpetrators receive the same punishment?

And in what twisted world is the truth equal to hate? I just love how you guys ignore facts such as Osama was never caught, either dead or alive, as promised.

And how about those Taliban taking over Pakistan, aren't you just a little worried that with access to nuclear weapons they won't bomb your town? Oh yeah, you're anonymous, that way they can't find you.

  5. Torture, according to the United Nations Convention Against Torture, is: THE BUSH ADMIN. LIED THAT THE AMERICAN GOVT. DOES NOT TORTURE. Abusing the authority of being power. What a shame. Mean what you say, and act right in good terms for the nation. Define Torture.
“ any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a male or female person for such purposes as obtaining from him, or a third person, information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity. It does not include pain or suffering arising only from, inherent in, or incidental to, lawful sanctions

I'm glad you voluntarily removed your comment because she did lie. And secondly, just because a person has brown skin and wears a turban with a funky beard does not automatically make them a terrorist. This country used to operate that a person was innocent until proven guilty. Of all the people incarcerated at Gitmo for the last seven years only 23 have ever been charged with anything so there is no way to know who is a terrorist and who is innocent.

As a veteran I am deeply appalled at how far we have sunk. Unlike a majority of Americans I was willing to put my life on the line to defend this country and its principles and it kills me to see everything tossed away because some of you are scared. Thank goodness the nation was stronger during the second world war or we would be speaking German on the East Coast and Japanese on the West.

Torture is wrong under any circumstance, life is not a television show that gets wrapped up in 24 episodes. Torture is going to come back and bite our service people, they will be the ones who pay the price and we won't have the moral authority to say that our troops don't deserve the treatment we've been dishing out to people who haven't even had a trial.

  9. I am still waiting to see reports on the effectiveness of waterboarding before I make my decision. This is a nasty business stopping people from killing people --especially killing on a large scale. It is easy to sit here after the fact and question it. good post.
