Rest In Peace

After 15 years of being unable to communicate Terri Schiavo has passed on. My fervent hope is that everyone can get back to their life, but something tells me that repercussions will ripple outward for a while.

  1. I think you're right about the repercussions, Debra. Personally, I thought the whole thing was none of our business. But you know me, I'm usually half informed with stuff. I only learned about it when a girlfriend of mine wanted to watch the news, and it came up. I couldn't understand why the husband couldn't just let her parents care for her. Was it an insurance issue? A pride issue?

Anyway, I'm glad it's over. It broke my heart to see that clip of Terri smiling, knowing that her husband wanted to "put her down".

  2. Jenny,

you should do more research. He cared for her personally for many years. He did not put her down. She was brain dead. Nobody home. Her parents were pretty uninvolved until the insurance settlement. Most eating disorders develop as a teenager, usually involving a loss of control and anger at not being understood by your biological family. The odds that her family knew what she wanted are pretty slim. Her husband will take the brunt of this, the person who was probably the most injured after Terri. The Faux news channels have been so busy making him out to be a bad guy and make much of the fact that without marltal companionship for many years he moved on with his life. I don't blame him. He went to nursing school to learn how to take care of her, he was a staunch advocate for her health care. The hospice says he rode them to make sure she got the best of care. i've done hospice work and I can tell you horror stories about what families will do when there is no hope but they can't let go.

  3. Like I said, Debra. :) I was only half informed. WOW! But I had no idea how off the mark I was. You're right, the media did make him out to be evil. Almost as bad as Scott Peterson. Anyway, I'm glad it's over, and that everyone truly involved can move on.
