How sad and will probably get sadder. I liked him.

AP Wire | 12/05/2005 | Former anchor dies in California house fire: "Doug Murphy, 53, who anchored the KPIX-TV newscast for years, died after a fire started shortly before 7:30 p.m. in his home in an upscale neighborhood of Lafayette, according to the station.

'It's a great tragedy and a terrible loss, and our condolences go out to his family, especially his children,' said Akilah Monifa, spokeswoman for the CBS affiliate.

A neighbor saw smoke coming out of the single-story house and called 911. Several neighbors ran to the house to see if anyone was inside, but were kept back by thick smoke, said Contra Costa Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee.

When firefighters arrived, they found a middle-aged white male inside, pulled him out and attempted to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Lee said."
